Hospitals
We have partnerships with two leading hospitals and several clinics in Chiang Mai, which provide primary care to a population of around one million. One is a not for profit organisation with 400 beds and the other a 150-bed private hospital offering a wide range of facilities and departments allowing you to gain experience across a number of different disciplines. The hospitals are full of activity each seeing between 800 and 1000 outpatients per day which provides you with great access to observing many different medical procedures and treatments.

The Thailand placements cover all major clinical areas including Paediatrics, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Internal medicine, General Medicine and Dentistry. Thailand is also a great choice for students with an interest in oncology, paediatrics, neurology, gastroenterology and ear, nose and throat diseases.
The team of student mentors and hospital coordinators are fantastic, ensuring the you have a comprehensive placement with experience of shadowing medical personnel in different specialisms and departments. In addition to observing the medical staff, the mentors deliver afternoon teaching sessions on topics from local healthcare issues, clinical skills, malaria and public education. The idea of the sessions is to give the students a greater understanding in order to interpret what they are seeing while shadowing the doctors and nurses.
