There's nothing like a room with a view, especially when it's the striking Uluguru Mountains. Located at the foot of these beauties is our purpose-built, sustainable Gap Medics house in Morogoro. With a refreshing pool, huge garden and a carefree vibe, you'll feel right at home as soon as you put your bags down.

While in Morogoro you'll have plenty of time to explore the many wonders of Tanzania. Join us as we venture to the grassy plains of Mikumi National Park - home to remarkable wildlife including elephants, giraffes, and lions. You'll even get to visit a traditional Maasai village. If you're interested in giving back to the community, you can also volunteer at the local orphanage.

The city itself is bustling, friendly and has a very authentic feel. With the hospital only being a short walk from the house, you'll have plenty of time to explore the charms of Morogoro in your downtime.

Steeped in history and bursting with cosmopolitan vibes, Warsaw sure packs a punch! As one of Europe's most dynamic capital cities, this modern gem is conveniently located in the middle of Poland making it a convenient and easy two-hour flight from London. It's also an ideal springboard location for any cheeky interrail adventures you may be thinking of doing before or after your placement.

As a city, Warsaw is incredibly safe to travel around with many attractions—like the hospital—only a short walk or tram ride away. During your time with us, there are also plenty of activities to keep you busy. You'll get the opportunity to visit museums, ice skate, enjoy the local cuisine in the city's vibrant cafes and restaurants, hike, horse ride, and even try your hand at indoor skiing! If you're into music, the city also has a thriving music scene with a number of festivals happening throughout the year.

Take the road less travelled at our brand new under-18s destination in the Caribbean. Planned for the Dominican Republic and opening summer 2017, this programme will give our younger students the opportunity to explore a whole new world of healthcare.
 
You could not ask for better scenery to be surrounded by as you shadow professionals in our partner hospitals, with temperatures across the Caribbean regularly averaging over 30 degrees Celsius and the allure of sun, sea and sand waiting for you at the end of every day. If you’re a nature lover, prepare to be amazed by everything from colourful coral reefs to whimsical whales.
 
Because the Caribbean is home to many small and isolated communities, you have the chance to make a real difference. Our community healthcare placements could see you out and about, helping your mentors deliver basic but much-needed healthcare to those who need it, as well as shadowing in our partner hospitals.

If you want to see East Africa at its most enchanting, head to Mafia Island and spend your placement living, working and relaxing in a tropical paradise. This destination is open to 16 and 17-year-olds from July through August, and to students aged 18 and older the remainder of the year.

This exclusive destination is located just off the coast of mainland Tanzania and provides you with the unique opportunity to learn about healthcare in a rural community setting. You’ll spend your days shadowing professionals in the island’s district hospital in addition to small, local clinics known as "dispensaries." You'll even have the opportunity to join the dispensaries on clinical visits to the smaller islands surrounding Mafia, which play host to some of Tanzania’s most underserved communities.

From your base at our purpose-built, sustainable beach house, you’ll have plenty of scope to explore the island - watch the sunset through the mangroves, go on a sea safari through the coral reefs, or relax with yoga on the beach.

La Romana

Your time in Pula will be packed with fun, sun and adventure. When you're not at the hospital, Italy's floating wonderland—Venice—is only a short trip away. If you’re more of a sailing the seven seas kind of person, why not hop on a boat and explore the big wide blue of the Adriatic? If you're looking to get up to something more local, you can explore the city's ancient Roman amphitheatre.

Another great thing about Pula is that it's easy to reach from the UK. At a short two and a half hours away from London, Pula is the perfect location for a cheeky one-week placement abroad. Pula is also host to two major music festivals, Dimensions and Outlook, so pack your dancing shoes.

In Thailand you'll be based in Phitsanulok, a relaxed and cheerful city in the north of the country. From here you'll get the opportunity to take an adventure and tick something pretty big off your bucket list. How would you like to feed, bathe and ride an elephant through beautiful rainforest trails? We told you it was big!

Another interesting thing about Phitsanulok is its fascinating history and culture. When you're not at the hospital, do as the locals do and grab a tuk tuk and explore the city's ancient temple, Wat Yai, or head down to the night markets and pick up some mouth-watering Thai cuisine. You're welcome.

Kilimanjaro

Snuggly located beneath the snow-capped peaks of the majestic Mt Kilimanjaro is the town of Moshi. This Gap Medics location is only open during peak programme periods and offers an experience similar to Morogoro - authentic, energetic and lively.

Kilimanjaro has more to offer than simply the mountain. You'll get the opportunity to go on a safari adventure to Tarangire National Park, a location famous for its spectacular elephant migration and tree-climbing lions. If white sandy beaches are more your thing, head to the crystal-clear waters of Zanzibar, a spectacular island just a short flight away.

The town of Moshi is a buzzing hub of activity with people dropping in either before or after they conquer the mountain. This gives the town a particularly easy-going vibe, perfect for people watching and exploring. If you're interested in giving back to the community, you can also volunteer at the local orphanage.
